This episode is 13 Haunted Locations in Louisville, Kentucky. I made this a Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 series making Pt. 1 discussing 8 Louisville, Ky Ghost Stories and Pt. 2 13 Haunted locations in Louisville, Ky. This episode was a lot of fun sharing my own personal encounters and research I did. Some of these places you wouldn't even know are haunted. Shout out to research from Leo Weekly's Sydney Catinna from her October 25, 2024 article.

WEBVTT

00:00:01.679 --> 00:00:02.879
Way, what's up everybody?

00:00:02.959 --> 00:00:05.200
Welcome to Bibin' with Sleezy the podcast.

00:00:05.280 --> 00:00:07.280
This is season seven, episode ten.

00:00:07.759 --> 00:00:10.400
I want to thank everybody for listening, tuning, and downloading.

00:00:10.480 --> 00:00:12.080
It's been a great season so far.

00:00:12.320 --> 00:00:15.119
Done some solo episodes and had some great guests.

00:00:15.199 --> 00:00:17.280
Um season keeps rolling on.

00:00:17.519 --> 00:00:25.280
So uh part one of this series, I did uh eight uh Louisville, Kentucky ghost stories and urban legends.

00:00:25.440 --> 00:00:34.240
And for this part two, uh kind of basically doing this as episode nine and ten, but I want to release them both at the same time.

00:00:34.320 --> 00:00:37.759
I'm doing 13 haunted locations in Louisville, Kentucky.

00:00:37.920 --> 00:00:46.240
So love doing these solo episodes on history, mysteries, legends, and so really thought I'd dive deep on this.

00:00:46.320 --> 00:00:49.679
Um shout out to Leo Weekly, uh the paper I used to work for.

00:00:49.840 --> 00:00:53.119
Sydney Cantina did a great piece back in 2024.

00:00:53.280 --> 00:01:01.679
So using some of her data, my own personal experiences, and really want to bring this uh episode to you with some uh fun stories.

00:01:01.920 --> 00:01:15.680
So overall, that first episode, um that part one there for episode nine, we uh we, you know, I touched on a lot of uh places there of those eight places.

00:01:15.840 --> 00:01:19.519
So a couple might pop up again in this episode.

00:01:19.599 --> 00:01:23.760
However, I'm gonna try to give you a little more details on each story.

00:01:24.000 --> 00:01:30.959
So the first place I wanna, and again, there's way more haunted places than 13 in Louisville, Kentucky.

00:01:31.120 --> 00:01:37.840
Um, from all this research uh that I did, um, looking up, these are just 13 great places to list.

00:01:37.920 --> 00:01:49.599
Um, the rest of the places, um, I'll try to at the end of the episode give some honorable mentions, but um, you know, you do your research out there, you're gonna find it definitely in this city, uh city with so much history.

00:01:49.760 --> 00:01:56.560
So the first place I want to discuss in this episode is Cave Hill Cemetery at 701 Baxter Avenue.

00:01:56.799 --> 00:02:00.400
Cave Hill is the home to Colonel Sanders, Muhammad Ali's grave.

00:02:00.560 --> 00:02:03.359
Uh Cave Hill is a beautiful cemetery.

00:02:03.519 --> 00:02:04.560
I brought people there.

00:02:04.719 --> 00:02:07.680
When the gates close, it's a little bit spookier.

00:02:08.000 --> 00:02:16.400
And uh next door to it is Eastern Cemetery, which has a lot of sad history, a lot of mass burial, unmarked graves.

00:02:16.639 --> 00:02:28.479
So if you can volunteer for the Eastern Cemetery to help out, they have like a Friends of Eastern Cemetery Association cutting the grass and you know doing lawn work, so just to keep that preserved.

00:02:28.560 --> 00:02:34.319
But yeah, the a lot of cemeteries in Louva, but those two uh definitely are the most famous.

00:02:34.479 --> 00:02:42.479
Uh Eastern for all the tragic history, and then Cave Hill just because it seems like so many people have been buried there from this city.

00:02:42.560 --> 00:02:45.840
I mean, over a hundred thousand graves are in that site.

00:02:45.919 --> 00:03:01.919
Um, you're sitting on a 296-acre cemetery, and you know what people really see is uh that a woman appears to take care of the graves, and many children buried there where you'll see green orbs over those graves.

00:03:02.240 --> 00:03:11.680
People also have heard voices, uh people have heard very cold winds come through the cemetery, and it gives you that uh that that spooky paranormal feel.

00:03:12.000 --> 00:03:19.360
Um Cave Hill's been around for so long, and I remember Cave Hill got such a big focus when Muhammad Ali died.

00:03:19.520 --> 00:03:21.520
And when you go in there, it's it's unique.

00:03:21.599 --> 00:03:29.039
Uh Muhammad Ali has a beautiful uh grave and it's very well done, and some people lay pennies there on it.

00:03:29.199 --> 00:03:35.840
And then when you go to Colonel Sanders, it actually has his his head, like a miniature thing of his head, his face.

00:03:36.000 --> 00:03:42.319
And I've seen a lot of people from out of town visit the Colonel Sanders grave when I've been driving through Cave Hill.

00:03:42.479 --> 00:03:43.680
So very interesting.

00:03:43.759 --> 00:03:47.759
But yeah, check that out in the heart of the highlands of all places.

00:03:48.000 --> 00:03:54.879
But uh it's it's there, it's beautiful, and uh you can see it too while you're driving down on Grinstead.

00:03:55.120 --> 00:04:00.319
A place I'm gonna mention too that was already in that part one, that episode nine there.

00:04:00.400 --> 00:04:07.680
Uh Poplik, uh the the trestles, um, where Goatman lives, or the Popelick monster, you want to call it.

00:04:07.919 --> 00:04:10.000
That is actually in Fisherville.

00:04:10.159 --> 00:04:19.439
It's between J Town and Taylorsville as you're heading down there, and you'll see on your left if you're heading into Spencer County, and you'll see it on your right if you're heading back to Jefferson County.

00:04:19.600 --> 00:04:22.560
And uh I've sat underneath the trestles.

00:04:22.639 --> 00:04:26.720
Um, a lot of people say that the goat man fell off a circus train.

00:04:26.879 --> 00:04:30.800
A lot of people say it's just this half sheep, half goat.

00:04:30.959 --> 00:04:32.639
Uh, it's killed people.

00:04:32.800 --> 00:04:37.360
There's been couples on dates, supposedly Boy Scout troops have been tortured.

00:04:37.439 --> 00:04:40.879
There's just been a lot of like urban legends, crazy stories.

00:04:41.040 --> 00:04:48.800
They say if you're up on the trestles and that train's coming, number one, it's bad luck to see it, but number two, it's hard to kind of escape it.

00:04:48.959 --> 00:04:55.920
Uh, people have seen many houses up there where like maybe they would have stored like kind of like a cabin in the woods vibe.

00:04:56.000 --> 00:04:57.680
But that whole area is really haunted.

00:04:57.759 --> 00:05:00.560
There was like a haunted house and like farm there.

00:05:00.720 --> 00:05:08.639
Um, there was a death on a soccer field close by, and then there's a lot of Satan worshiping that has happened in that area where people have discussed it.

00:05:08.720 --> 00:05:12.480
Now they do a public monster like festival.

00:05:12.639 --> 00:05:15.040
Um, my friend, shout out to Whitney Yadon.

00:05:15.279 --> 00:05:20.560
She'll actually be on a future episode here this season, and we'll discuss it more.

00:05:20.639 --> 00:05:33.120
She's discussed it in the past on episodes, but uh, she's an artist and she makes felt goat man, and uh they're very popular, and it's it's been going on for a few years, and so check it out.

00:05:33.279 --> 00:05:43.279
Look up the history, but this is probably the biggest one from my childhood because besides Waverly Hills, everyone talked about the Pop Lick Monster, Goat Man.

00:05:43.519 --> 00:05:52.800
I mean, it was always very, very well discussed and uh very, very uh common to hear that, especially in J Town where I was born and raised.

00:05:54.079 --> 00:05:57.519
The next one I want to discuss is the witches tree.

00:05:57.680 --> 00:06:02.079
And the witches tree is at um you know 6th Street and Park Avenue.

00:06:02.160 --> 00:06:07.519
It's right there on the northwest corner, and you can literally see Central Park standing at the tree.

00:06:07.759 --> 00:06:08.959
I won't ever touch it.

00:06:09.040 --> 00:06:11.360
I also discussed this in part one.

00:06:11.519 --> 00:06:27.199
You know, the the history on it is some witches cursed it when they tried to make a maypole out of the tree site, and the witches fled to the west end, and they cursed the city of Louisville, pretty much like 11th Street onto the earlier streets.

00:06:27.439 --> 00:06:33.680
And uh basically that witch's tree still has gifts, still people worshiping a big historic thing.

00:06:33.920 --> 00:06:37.519
It looks nothing like any of the trees in the Louisville, Kentucky area.

00:06:37.759 --> 00:06:49.920
So when you are by the tree, you're very shocked to see it, and you're very shocked that a tree looks like that of some sort, but supposedly still haunted, and it takes over all the roots there.

00:06:50.079 --> 00:07:01.360
And basically, they're saying this tree looks the way it looks because the witch's curse and that lightning strike that came down to that site, uh, you know, to hit that where the tree's at.

00:07:01.519 --> 00:07:03.439
So very, very interesting.

00:07:03.519 --> 00:07:04.959
Uh, definitely check that out.

00:07:05.120 --> 00:07:07.920
It's uh very, very eerie when you're by there.

00:07:08.160 --> 00:07:10.800
So I've brought a lot of people there.

00:07:11.040 --> 00:07:14.399
I've had some friends that have literally like hugged it.

00:07:14.560 --> 00:07:24.399
I mean, it's just people kind of embrace it all in their own particular way, but uh definitely is a place that's very popular during Halloween time.

00:07:24.720 --> 00:07:36.319
Um, another place that I'm very familiar with is the former Sweet Surrendas now, or excuse me, Sweet Surrender now is Bayes Bakery, which is located 1804 Frankfurt Avenue.

00:07:36.480 --> 00:07:39.759
That's there in the Clifton area, it's right in the heart of Clifton.

00:07:39.839 --> 00:07:42.319
Uh, that area in general is very haunted.

00:07:42.399 --> 00:07:44.480
Um, tons of history was there.

00:07:44.639 --> 00:07:57.439
Uh it's been more developed over the past 15 years, but now it's it's kind of one of the big drinking food spots, but also kind of like a little historic cut-through.

00:07:57.600 --> 00:08:01.759
Um, that whole area kind of leading up to River Road is historic in general.

00:08:01.920 --> 00:08:03.439
But I've been in there a lot.

00:08:03.519 --> 00:08:04.639
They're a former client.

00:08:04.720 --> 00:08:08.399
They did stuff with me at when I worked at Leo Weekly and helped with events.

00:08:08.480 --> 00:08:12.319
And shout out to my friend Daniel Marie, who worked there for several years.

00:08:12.480 --> 00:08:14.639
I also have worked with her at other places.

00:08:14.879 --> 00:08:16.319
Um, she's mentioned it.

00:08:16.399 --> 00:08:26.079
So is the former owner Jessica Haskell, who owns Sweet Surrender, have mentioned how they would see people, see a woman with curly hair, see people through the mirrors.

00:08:26.240 --> 00:08:31.519
And you always wondered why Bum and Bay's bakery have such particular hours.

00:08:31.759 --> 00:08:38.799
And sometimes you wonder if it has to do with the haunted history there and if there's any interference from the ghosts.

00:08:38.960 --> 00:08:41.600
But definitely a good place to get a bakery item.

00:08:41.679 --> 00:08:48.159
Uh, also some good little shops around there and bars, and you know, you could you can have a good time, you know.

00:08:48.399 --> 00:08:50.960
Uh it's just a very interesting place.

00:08:51.120 --> 00:09:00.960
But overall, have not really learned if Bayes Bakery was having the same experiences at Sweet Surrender as Sweet Surrender was having there.

00:09:01.120 --> 00:09:09.759
But I think they probably are because uh place we'll mention in our list is a closed-down bar, an old kind of firehouse place, silver dollar.

00:09:10.240 --> 00:09:13.039
It's a uh very haunted place as well.

00:09:13.200 --> 00:09:16.559
So that whole little square there has got a lot of history.

00:09:16.879 --> 00:09:19.360
Place we're going to talk about is the Bell of Louisville.

00:09:19.519 --> 00:09:20.799
So that is a steamboat.

00:09:20.960 --> 00:09:23.200
That is our most historic steamboat.

00:09:23.440 --> 00:09:26.559
It is located at 401 West River Road.

00:09:26.799 --> 00:09:32.399
The oldest pumping station in North America is right next to the Bell of Louisville.

00:09:32.559 --> 00:09:35.919
And so with the Bell of Louisville, I rode on it in high school.

00:09:36.080 --> 00:09:37.679
I was class of 2008.

00:09:37.759 --> 00:09:40.559
We took our whole senior trip down in the boat.

00:09:40.720 --> 00:09:42.320
Um, a lot of schools did that.

00:09:42.399 --> 00:09:43.360
It's super cool.

00:09:43.519 --> 00:09:52.960
I've never had any history there, like from the standpoint of seeing ghosts or haunted stuff, but I've been there when it's been docked, I've been there when it's undocked.

00:09:53.120 --> 00:09:58.080
I've actually took the German girls that came and visited me, and we went down and checked out the boat.

00:09:58.159 --> 00:10:00.159
It just has so much cool history.

00:10:00.320 --> 00:10:01.519
It's a great boat ride.

00:10:01.600 --> 00:10:03.200
It's something you can do to this day.

00:10:03.279 --> 00:10:06.080
Uh, they do dinner cruises, they do all kinds of things.

00:10:06.240 --> 00:10:11.679
Uh, it's actually a uh a job now for some people that they'll work there through Metro.

00:10:11.840 --> 00:10:19.039
But when you ride down the uh river, um, you know, it just it's just great, especially being on a steamboat.

00:10:19.200 --> 00:10:29.759
Um, they do race the Cincinnati uh ship uh during the the great steamboat races during Derby leading up, and this is April, so we're in the heart of Derby season.

00:10:29.840 --> 00:10:32.080
Uh Derby will be here before we know it.

00:10:32.240 --> 00:10:37.360
Uh the Kentucky Derby actually um first Saturday in May.

00:10:37.519 --> 00:10:42.080
I mean, it it's crazy to think that it's only a month out from that derby.

00:10:42.399 --> 00:10:49.919
Uh last year, you know, it felt like Derby was here and it flew by so quickly.

00:10:50.159 --> 00:10:54.799
Churchill Downs is a little controversy right now because of uh betting.

00:10:55.039 --> 00:11:01.679
Uh they had some fees they had to pay, fines for safety regulations, and you know, it might affect online betting.

00:11:01.919 --> 00:11:13.919
So Churchill Downs, you know, they are huge here in Louisville, and I've I've gone to Churchill Downs my whole life and they own tons of racetracks, but not always doing the best business practices.

00:11:14.080 --> 00:11:27.120
I know some people there that are good people, but uh they they need to definitely do some uh, you know, make sure things are safer there at Churchill Downs, and hopefully things are going according to the plan for everybody that's involved.

00:11:27.279 --> 00:11:29.200
But back to the Bell Louisville.

00:11:29.360 --> 00:11:33.279
Um, so the story, you know, Captain Ben Winter is a former captain.

00:11:33.360 --> 00:11:35.519
He suffered a fatal heart attack on board.

00:11:35.679 --> 00:11:40.159
His spirit is said to linger on the steamboat, overseeing the vessel he once commanded.

00:11:40.320 --> 00:11:43.120
It said the boat is haunted by former crew members too.

00:11:43.279 --> 00:11:53.679
One crew member was crushed to death when machinery was accidentally activated on the boat, and another met a similar fate when the paddle wheel unexpectedly started on its own and killed him.

00:11:54.000 --> 00:11:57.600
So, very crazy that there has been those deaths.

00:11:57.679 --> 00:12:05.759
And when you're on the Belloval, you get that historic feel, and you definitely can sense, you know, that boat has seen some things.

00:12:05.919 --> 00:12:07.519
So it's crazy to have that.

00:12:07.600 --> 00:12:17.759
And, you know, but you know, I think with Captain Ben Winters, he took so much pride in that uh in that ship that I think he's looking out for it in a good way.

00:12:17.919 --> 00:12:22.240
Uh the Sealbach Hotel, uh, it has such a great gas be feel.

00:12:22.320 --> 00:12:23.840
Al Capone has stayed there.

00:12:23.919 --> 00:12:31.919
He gave a mirror once in the uh bar there, and he would use it to see if cops and people were coming in like enemies, and he'd flee.

00:12:32.000 --> 00:12:35.039
And Louisville has tunnels all over downtown Louisville.

00:12:35.120 --> 00:12:36.960
There's tunnels all through underground.

00:12:37.039 --> 00:12:37.840
I've been in them.

00:12:38.000 --> 00:12:39.679
They can take you all the way to the river.

00:12:39.759 --> 00:12:43.200
So he would flee down the river to get on the boat and head out of town.

00:12:43.279 --> 00:12:45.279
But he did a lot of business here in Louisville.

00:12:45.759 --> 00:12:47.600
Sealbock Hotel was beautiful.

00:12:47.759 --> 00:12:49.440
People love the Sealbach.

00:12:49.519 --> 00:12:53.039
Uh, it's definitely a huge tourist attraction.

00:12:53.200 --> 00:12:56.159
Um, definitely a place too for locals to have events.

00:12:56.240 --> 00:13:03.360
I actually went uh with Harbor House, they did a great Gatsby themed event there, which was super cool.

00:13:03.679 --> 00:13:06.399
And they have a speakeasy in the basement.

00:13:06.480 --> 00:13:08.799
Uh, a lot of just cool stuff has happened there.

00:13:08.960 --> 00:13:10.960
That whole little block is historic.

00:13:11.039 --> 00:13:15.360
It's close to Four Street Live, which is used to be the old galleria.

00:13:15.600 --> 00:13:22.399
Um, the dry goods store there, CVS, it's been seen on stripes, uh, right there, that little corner.

00:13:22.639 --> 00:13:26.399
And uh, you know, there was tons of old buildings around there.

00:13:26.639 --> 00:13:29.039
I used to rent an apartment there.

00:13:29.200 --> 00:13:37.440
I actually talked about this on the Chris and Murray episode that was an old department store, and it had the old wooden elevators and floors.

00:13:37.600 --> 00:13:40.159
So everything down there is a lot of history.

00:13:40.240 --> 00:13:44.159
So the Sealbot, it was actually built in 1905.

00:13:44.399 --> 00:13:47.440
It was huge, huge, uh elegant hotel.

00:13:47.519 --> 00:13:51.840
You know, Otto and Louis Sealbach, the Bavarian brothers, helped build it.

00:13:52.000 --> 00:13:55.120
Uh, you know, some people say it did influence the Great Gatsby.

00:13:55.519 --> 00:14:00.960
Uh, known for its stunning French Renaissance architecture, it's had countless guests over the years.

00:14:01.120 --> 00:14:04.480
And the lady in blue, Patricia Wilson, is the one that haunts it.

00:14:04.639 --> 00:14:10.159
Uh, she got a call that her husband, who she was waiting for, died in route to the hotel.

00:14:10.240 --> 00:14:13.600
And grief-stricken, she was found at the bottom of the elevator shaft.

00:14:13.679 --> 00:14:19.120
And the circumstances are kind of a mystery there if she jumped or let it crush her or what.

00:14:19.200 --> 00:14:28.159
But since then, guests have reported seeing the sightings of the woman in blue with the long dark hair wandering the hotel hall, seemingly waiting for her husband to arrive.

00:14:28.320 --> 00:14:36.000
The legend of the lady in blue adds a uh eerie allure to the sealbox, making it a captivating destination for both history and ghost likes.

00:14:36.080 --> 00:14:37.679
And I would just recommend going there.

00:14:37.759 --> 00:14:39.360
It's a great place to check out.

00:14:39.519 --> 00:14:49.279
And a lot of these places, I'm telling you, are free places or places you can just go check out or even drive the exterior, and you can do it almost in a uh giant 30-man loop.

00:14:49.440 --> 00:15:00.240
Another place I'm gonna talk about, and I'll go in a little bit more detail the story than I did in that part one, episode nine, but the lady of the stairs, 1305 Sound Third Street at that church.

00:15:00.399 --> 00:15:06.879
Um, the Lady of Stairs is no different as that young Miss G story that we'll show share uh there from Meta.

00:15:07.360 --> 00:15:16.080
But it was a young woman whose parents wanted her to have an arranged marriage with another large distilling family, but she was in love and had promised herself to a young soldier.

00:15:16.159 --> 00:15:21.519
And when the young soldier was due to be discharged, he re-enlisted so that he would be stationed close to his love.

00:15:21.679 --> 00:15:34.639
While he was stationed near her at Camp Zachary Taylor, she knew that she could meet him at the church or nearby, which they did, as they made a plan to elope, and on the night they were supposed to meet, the young woman showed up with a small suitcase ready to leave with her love.

00:15:34.799 --> 00:15:35.679
He didn't show.

00:15:35.840 --> 00:15:40.720
She came back the next night again waiting on him and pacing, and yet another night he didn't show.

00:15:40.879 --> 00:15:48.559
This repeated itself a few nights and eventually she stopped coming, and he but unfortunately he had fallen ill and he died from the Spanish flu.

00:15:48.799 --> 00:15:55.919
Spanish flu was huge around then, and it was definitely killing lots of people, and then it followed suit with her.

00:15:56.080 --> 00:16:08.799
A lot of people say she died of a heartbreak, uh a broken heart, which is it could be true as well, but she still said to be seen pacing the stairs of the first church of Church of Christ Scientists waiting for her love.

00:16:08.960 --> 00:16:11.279
So that place is a place you can see the exterior.

00:16:11.360 --> 00:16:15.200
I've been inside a couple times, it is very spooky, very eerie.

00:16:15.360 --> 00:16:32.320
Um, you know, I hope her soul eventually gets the rest and finds her love in the spirit world, but uh it seems like it's something where she spent so much time and she left so much of her heart that that spot must have meant so much to her soul.

00:16:32.559 --> 00:16:34.799
Uh so now we're gonna dive into Meta.

00:16:35.279 --> 00:16:40.000
So Meta is uh 425 West Chestnut Street.

00:16:40.080 --> 00:16:42.480
It's a very lively bar, it's been very popular.

00:16:42.559 --> 00:16:44.960
It used to be one of my Budweiser accounts I sold to.

00:16:45.279 --> 00:16:50.720
It was next to the Body Shop Strip Club, um, which was one of my accounts and a tattoo shop.

00:16:50.879 --> 00:16:53.279
Uh there's been a lot of different businesses here and there.

00:16:53.440 --> 00:16:57.679
The body shop was definitely a uh cool account I had.

00:16:57.919 --> 00:17:00.399
They let me kind of design their strip club again.

00:17:00.639 --> 00:17:20.319
But at one time it was the show and tell lounge, and it was home to a ghostly presidents that Meta Bar was that basically a former dancer from the show and tell lounge once celebrated her new and her new portrait adorned the walls of the bar, and it was relocated to an office following the lounge's opening.

00:17:20.480 --> 00:17:27.279
The dancer enjoyed spending time by her painting until her life was cut short by a tragic murder at the hands of a customer.

00:17:27.519 --> 00:17:31.519
Since then, the owners and the staff reported unsettling feelings throughout the bar.

00:17:31.680 --> 00:17:36.799
They've witnessed the apparition of a woman gliding through the back hallway only to banish when approached.

00:17:36.960 --> 00:17:40.000
Despite through searches, no living person has ever been found.

00:17:40.160 --> 00:17:43.920
The lingering presence of the dancer serves the honey remainder of the area.

00:17:44.079 --> 00:17:49.920
So with Meta having such a lively presence and a cool bar, it does have that spooky feel.

00:17:50.000 --> 00:17:55.920
And if you step out to the right of Meta, there used to be a pesto, an Ethiopian restaurant there, which were awesome.

00:17:56.079 --> 00:17:57.599
Budweiser accounts I had.

00:17:57.759 --> 00:17:59.680
They were great places.

00:17:59.839 --> 00:18:00.799
COVID hit them.

00:18:01.119 --> 00:18:14.400
But overall, that structure where Meta is and the former body shop that shut down, because strip clubs and Louisville just don't do as well anymore, besides, you know, your PTs and Godfathers, uh, because of you know strip club laws and stuff.

00:18:14.559 --> 00:18:19.839
It that building, you know, has stayed abandoned, but very historic, very haunted, that little strip.

00:18:20.079 --> 00:18:31.440
And uh, you know, you definitely realize how much went down in that area back in the day because all that is that little area is tied together um with history.

00:18:31.519 --> 00:18:34.880
But yeah, meta, definitely a place check out, go grab a cocktail there.

00:18:35.039 --> 00:18:37.039
Now we're gonna circle back to that Clifton area.

00:18:37.119 --> 00:18:38.400
I mentioned it, the silver dollar.

00:18:38.640 --> 00:18:41.200
Uh that's 1761 Frankfurt Avenue.

00:18:41.279 --> 00:18:42.640
It's not open anymore.

00:18:42.799 --> 00:18:47.200
It's uh actually in one of the country's oldest firehouses.

00:18:47.440 --> 00:18:52.079
And the playful spirit that haunts the silver dollar is known as Kevin.

00:18:52.240 --> 00:18:57.279
Uh the ghostly figure is said to be lingering essence of a firefighter who tragically died in a blaze.

00:18:57.359 --> 00:19:05.359
After his death, Kevin's body was meant to be brought back to the station for a final farewell, but a mix-up led to him being taken to the wrong firehouse.

00:19:05.599 --> 00:19:12.000
Now it seems Kevin has found a new home at the Silver Dollar where he delights in playing small pranks on the staff that used to work there.

00:19:12.160 --> 00:19:18.799
Employees reported unexplained occurrences like items mysteriously shifting positions and the sound of footsteps when Noah's around.

00:19:18.960 --> 00:19:26.640
Kevin Spirit adds a quirky touch to the bar's atmosphere, ensuring that patrons and staff alike can enjoy a drink alongside a ghost with a sense of humor.

00:19:26.880 --> 00:19:28.000
Very cool spot.

00:19:28.079 --> 00:19:33.680
Uh, definitely a place you can still see the exterior and you can see kind of the historic vibe of it.

00:19:33.759 --> 00:19:37.279
You can even look through the windows, a lot of stuff's still inside there.

00:19:37.440 --> 00:19:41.680
Not sure why that place has not blown up again or why silver dollar didn't work.

00:19:41.759 --> 00:19:43.200
It was such a booming business.

00:19:43.359 --> 00:20:05.200
I know they had uh a couple situations that may have happened, but uh someone I feel like should take that over, and definitely because Clifton's such a booming area, it might also be a high price because it is in that historic spot, but that building's not going anywhere because Louisville definitely takes care of their historic spots.

00:20:05.519 --> 00:20:17.359
But again, this place is very close to all this history leading up to River Road, so you you never know how much you know was seen over time.

00:20:17.839 --> 00:20:20.319
Another place is Sauerkraut Cave.

00:20:20.400 --> 00:20:22.559
Uh that is at EP Tom Sawyer Park.

00:20:22.640 --> 00:20:25.680
Tom Sawyer Park is off of Hursthorn.

00:20:26.000 --> 00:20:33.920
Um, you gotta go down, it's kind of like get off in that little Linden exit there, or you can get off and get in there off of uh Westport Road.

00:20:34.160 --> 00:20:36.960
But you you go to Tom Sawyer, it's a huge park.

00:20:37.039 --> 00:20:38.000
I've done events there.

00:20:38.079 --> 00:20:41.359
I actually floated in a cardboard boat there once for a project.

00:20:41.519 --> 00:20:43.759
I made the news, that was fucking awesome.

00:20:43.920 --> 00:20:54.960
But super cool park, great to explore, tons of deer, tons of cemeteries, but a lot of hauntings and a lot of stuff because it was close to that mental hospital that's still around there.

00:20:55.039 --> 00:20:59.680
And there's just been a lot of stuff that has happened there over time.

00:20:59.920 --> 00:21:07.599
But overall, beautiful park, beautiful place to explore, and just a great place to really walk around and take it in.

00:21:07.680 --> 00:21:10.559
And they even have uh a very old facility.

00:21:10.640 --> 00:21:15.839
It's got like a pool, basketball courts, uh, I think like you know, like a community center area.

00:21:16.000 --> 00:21:21.359
So huge parking, uh great track, uh, softball, baseball fields.

00:21:21.440 --> 00:21:24.079
Um, but overall, very, very cool place.

00:21:24.240 --> 00:21:31.200
Um basically, sauerkraut cave, though, is a network of underground tunnels believed to connect to the mythical hollow earth.

00:21:31.279 --> 00:21:34.799
A theory that is earth is a shell with walls about 800 miles thick.

00:21:35.039 --> 00:21:39.839
In popular leasing popular regions, there are holes 1400 miles across.

00:21:40.000 --> 00:21:43.039
Uh, that is from the Geophysical Institute, by the way.

00:21:43.119 --> 00:21:49.920
And named for its historical use in aging sauerkraut, the subterranean site holds a darker legacy, full of death and mystery.

00:21:50.079 --> 00:21:57.680
It lies beneath the infamous Lakeland Asylum for the insane, which face serious accusations of overcrowding and patient mistreatment.

00:21:57.839 --> 00:22:06.559
And the cave is rumored to have severed as an Escape route for inmates, but chilling tales also just suggest that bodies may have been buried within its death.

00:22:07.119 --> 00:22:12.000
Visitors have reported visions of spirits as well as ghostly voices echoing through the caverns.

00:22:12.319 --> 00:22:14.000
I have seen the cave.

00:22:14.079 --> 00:22:15.119
It's terrifying.

00:22:15.519 --> 00:22:16.559
I have not gone in.

00:22:16.640 --> 00:22:18.319
It's very blocked off now.

00:22:18.480 --> 00:22:26.240
And there is a lot of uh crazy stuff that you'll really witness and see in that area.

00:22:26.400 --> 00:22:46.480
And um, you know, from a history standpoint, and you also have to realize these hospitals and asylums were horrible back in the day for mistreatment, you know, from Waverly to the place that got shut down in the 80s that I mentioned in part one on episode nine, and then uh this place above uh you know Tom Sawyer Park in the cave.

00:22:46.720 --> 00:22:49.599
Just a very, very uh dark history, you know.

00:22:49.839 --> 00:22:51.759
Be safe if you try to explore it.

00:22:51.839 --> 00:23:05.920
I know that they have a lot of cameras over there, and if you are looking for something to also see, tons of historic uh cemetery markers uh are deep in um Tom Sawyer Park in a uh little cut-through path.

00:23:06.079 --> 00:23:08.559
You kind of go walk through the woods, it's about like a sign.

00:23:08.640 --> 00:23:12.079
They actually mark them so you can see them and you can go check those out.

00:23:12.240 --> 00:23:24.079
Um, the last two places that I want to talk about uh is first one is Buffalo Trace Distillery at 113 Great Buffalo Trace in Frankfurt, Kentucky, the capital of Kentucky.

00:23:24.240 --> 00:23:26.640
It is the Kentucky's oldest bourbon distillery.

00:23:26.799 --> 00:23:39.200
Buffalo Trace is said to be, and they say it's one of them, but uh deep down I believe it is uh may be the oldest bourbon distillery uh up there, and also is home of the biggest barrel in the world.

00:23:39.359 --> 00:23:40.000
Very, very cool.

00:23:40.079 --> 00:23:41.680
I've seen that, touched it.

00:23:42.000 --> 00:23:46.720
But um overall, this place, Buffalo Trace, is beautiful.

00:23:46.960 --> 00:24:03.359
Uh got like Buffalo course themed stuff, a Buffalo statue, and they just make very, very good bourbon, and it's great for the Frankfurt, Kentucky area, brings a lot of tourism there to the Capitol, which really only has the Capitol building and some historic spots.

00:24:03.519 --> 00:24:08.400
Um, but overall, Buffalo Trace is said to be haunted by more than just spirits.

00:24:08.559 --> 00:24:10.880
The most famous ghost is Colonel Albert B.

00:24:10.960 --> 00:24:15.759
Bland, a former distillery president whose presence is still felt by employees and visitors alike.

00:24:15.920 --> 00:24:25.519
From aberrations and sudden scold spots to disembodied voices echoing through the halls, the distillery's spooky reputation caught the attention of the ghost hunters team in 2011.

00:24:25.759 --> 00:24:32.720
Every investigator on the sci-fi channel uh show on the team had a paranormal experience, making it one of their most chilling cases.

00:24:32.960 --> 00:24:41.839
Dating back to the 18th century, Buffalo trace sits on old Buffalo Crossing, and the distillery's long history means it's no surprise that a few characters might still linger.

00:24:42.079 --> 00:24:45.039
Sightings, accidents, and strangers' occurrence have all reported here.

00:24:45.119 --> 00:24:47.519
According to Layers, it's already rich history.

00:24:47.680 --> 00:24:53.519
Ghost towards are available for the brave, offering a chance to catch a glimpse of the spirits that roam these historic grounds.

00:24:53.759 --> 00:24:59.039
So there could be uh demons, but there also could be historic spirits.

00:24:59.119 --> 00:24:59.759
You never know.

00:24:59.839 --> 00:25:14.799
But according with Buffalo Trace having that Buffalo Crossing, Buffalo crossings were huge, especially from Louisville to southern Indiana, and Frankfurt's about an hour away from Louisville, so it's still kind of close and ties into how much history the state of Kentucky has.

00:25:14.960 --> 00:25:18.240
I mean, the state of Kentucky dates back to the 1700s.

00:25:18.480 --> 00:25:24.160
And so the last spot we're going to talk about is the Brown Hotel, 335 West Broadway, Louisville.

00:25:24.240 --> 00:25:29.039
The Brown Hotel has a hotel, a bar and restaurant, and then the Brown Theater.

00:25:29.279 --> 00:25:30.880
Very historic, very old.

00:25:31.039 --> 00:25:32.319
Tons of people have come here.

00:25:32.559 --> 00:25:34.480
Gives you that really historic vibe.

00:25:34.720 --> 00:25:39.680
Actually, stayed there uh back on the top floor and for Corey Williams.

00:25:39.839 --> 00:25:40.960
Shout out to him, his wedding.

00:25:41.039 --> 00:25:46.960
He had everybody stay there that night before, and we all went to the wedding the next day together, and we were partying, and we went down.

00:25:47.039 --> 00:25:49.440
I went actually down to the lobby to get more beer.

00:25:49.599 --> 00:25:53.599
And I get on the elevator, and as I'm riding up, it stops on the second floor.

00:25:53.839 --> 00:25:55.519
And a couple comes on.

00:25:55.759 --> 00:25:58.480
They look like they're from the Great Gatsby area.

00:25:58.640 --> 00:26:01.680
They're not even talking, they're not even saying that.

00:26:01.839 --> 00:26:03.039
I try to talk to them.

00:26:03.279 --> 00:26:04.319
They just stare at me.

00:26:04.400 --> 00:26:05.119
We ride up.

00:26:05.200 --> 00:26:06.720
It was very, very freaky.

00:26:06.799 --> 00:26:08.960
I was a little lit, but it was very scary.

00:26:09.119 --> 00:26:15.119
They get off on the floor right below our floor, and then I'm telling you, as soon as they took a left, they vanished.

00:26:15.279 --> 00:26:16.960
I went out and peeked my head.

00:26:17.200 --> 00:26:17.839
Freaky.

00:26:18.000 --> 00:26:19.119
I know I saw a ghost.

00:26:19.200 --> 00:26:23.440
I told the group upstairs they thought I went crazy or I was drunk, but no, it was for real.

00:26:23.599 --> 00:26:24.720
I'll never forget that.

00:26:24.880 --> 00:26:28.400
And those Brown hotel elevators are very, very historic.

00:26:28.559 --> 00:26:30.640
But here's some history, a little bit about it.

00:26:30.799 --> 00:26:34.799
It's a luxurious four-star establishment founded by John Graham Brown.

00:26:34.880 --> 00:26:40.079
The hotel's namesake once resided on the 15th floor, which has since been converted to storage.

00:26:40.160 --> 00:26:44.720
However, it seems, and see, where we were staying was actually, I believe, like the 14th.

00:26:44.960 --> 00:26:46.319
We were on the top floor there.

00:26:46.480 --> 00:26:47.920
Uh however, it seems Mr.

00:26:48.000 --> 00:26:49.839
Brown never truly left his hotel.

00:26:49.920 --> 00:27:00.000
Staff frequently report strange happenings on the floor where disembodied footprints mysteriously appear on the dusty surface, and the sounds of furniture being rearranged echo through the stillness.

00:27:00.240 --> 00:27:04.960
Guests they've even caught a whiff of faint cigar smoke, a nod to the founder's favorite pastime.

00:27:05.119 --> 00:27:08.400
To add to the intrigue, the hotel elevator has a particular kirk.

00:27:08.559 --> 00:27:10.960
So here we go about the uh elevator.

00:27:11.119 --> 00:27:17.519
It often stops at the 15th floor, seemingly compelled to pay a visit visit, regardless of its intended destination.

00:27:17.680 --> 00:27:24.480
The lingering presence of John Graham Brown assures that the Brown Hotel remains a place for history and the afterlife interwine.

00:27:24.640 --> 00:27:31.119
So very interesting to learn that because that elevator seemed like it took a path of its own when I was on it.

00:27:31.200 --> 00:27:38.240
And I feel like my story, which I've shared this story before with others, I feel like it really proves the history at the Brown Hotel.

00:27:38.319 --> 00:27:39.599
They were one of my accounts too.

00:27:39.680 --> 00:27:44.079
I was very lucky to sell beer in so many historic places around Louisville.

00:27:44.319 --> 00:27:51.519
So the Brown Hotel, in my opinion, is top tier when it comes to history, especially where it's located.

00:27:51.599 --> 00:27:56.160
And you there's so many great pictures of it in the past, and it's just a beautiful spot.

00:27:56.400 --> 00:28:07.200
Uh, overall, with uh Louisville, uh, you know, PT Strip Club, another place when I was down in the basement, uh, you know, when I worked there and so beer, it it was super haunted.

00:28:07.279 --> 00:28:10.240
That building has a guy, looks like the Marlboro man in the back.

00:28:10.319 --> 00:28:13.200
It was like an old Felt factory, a lot of crazy stuff.

00:28:13.440 --> 00:28:17.599
Haymarket area, tons of history there, tons of people have seen ghosts.

00:28:17.839 --> 00:28:25.279
Um, you go into uh, you know, of course, Waverly Hills, which was on this list, hot, you know, probably most haunted place in America.

00:28:25.440 --> 00:28:31.440
You got the old Kogay factory in Jerusalem, Indiana, which has a bigger cloth than Big Ben.

00:28:31.839 --> 00:28:42.079
Um, so overall, I could go on and on the history in Louisville and the haunted stuff, and it goes from you know 1st Street all the way to 48th Street.

00:28:42.160 --> 00:28:45.759
I mean, it it it it touches history was huge, you know.

00:28:45.839 --> 00:28:54.799
And you know, the thing that I always wonder is how much history and hauntings are from the amusement park that used to be, you know, Fountain Ferry down in the West End.

00:28:54.880 --> 00:28:59.359
And it's just it just overall it there's so much history, and then you learn more and more.

00:28:59.519 --> 00:29:02.240
I mean, I'll probably do more episodes than this type of stuff.

00:29:02.400 --> 00:29:13.759
Um, these two pieces that really got my brain triggering out of out of Leo Weekly, and then me doing my own research and me having my own personal experiences, I feel like this is great podcasting.

00:29:13.920 --> 00:29:16.640
So, overall, this is season seven, episode ten.

00:29:16.880 --> 00:29:24.400
I want to thank everybody for listening to all the episodes and seasons and being a fan, and hopefully you've listened to these two partners, which I really appreciate.

00:29:24.559 --> 00:29:30.319
And uh BibleSleazy.com is the website, Bible Sleazy the Podcast, Facebook, Instagram.

00:29:30.480 --> 00:29:31.359
Thank you all.

00:29:31.519 --> 00:29:36.480
And uh more episodes coming as season seven rows on, and we are out.

00:29:36.640 --> 00:29:37.119
Peace.
